HONOLULU (KHON2) — Legendary Tahitian paddler Lewis Laughlin explained the difference between paddling in a six-man canoe and a V1.
When paddling a six-man canoe, Laughlin said the paddlers must work together as one.
“You cannot look like nine paddlers. You want to look like, you want to be feeling one when you are on a six-man canoe. That leads to success, he added.
A V1 canoe does not have a rudder.
“On a V1, you’re the stroker, you’re number five, you’re the steersman, you’re the coach, you’re everything. You are on your own journey.”
