Hawaii soccer wins bevy of Big West awards

After winning the Big West regular season and hosting rights for the conference tournament, the University of Hawaii soccer team won a bevy of the conference’s weekly awards on Saturday.

Head coach Michele Nagamine was named the Big West Coach of the Year for the second time in her career and first time since 2019. Meanwhile, Kennedy Justin was named the Goalkeeper of the Year.

Additionally, Nalani Damacion earned Midfielder of the Year honors while Jacey Jicha earned Defensive Player of the Year honors.

Furthermore, Justin, Damacion and Jicha were each named to the All-Big West first team.

Defender Alice Davidson and forward Brynn Mitchell were named to the Big West’s second team, while Cate Sheahan and Amber GIlbert earned Honorable Mention.

Justin, Damacion and Davidson were also named to the All-Freshman team.

Hawaii will take on the winner of Sunday’s 4-5 contest between UC Irvine and Cal State Bakersfield on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Waipio Peninsula Soccer Complex.
