KEKAHA, Hawaii (KHON2) — A man was hospitalized on Sunday evening after a car struck him as he was crossing Kaumuali‘i Highway.
According to Kaua‘i police, the incident happened in Kekaha around 7:20 p.m. when a 2020 Nissan SUV traveled westbound on the highway near Elepaio Road.
As a result of the crash, officers closed both directions of the highway to conduct an on-scene investigation. The road was closed for almost two hours.
The man was later identified as a 79-year-old Princeville man. Paramedics took him to Wilcox Medical Center with serious injuries.
Officials said he is still at the hospital in stable condition.
