HONOLULU (KHON2) — As families across Hawaii prepare to cook their Thanksgiving meals, the Honolulu Fire Department is urging residents to prioritize safety in the kitchen.
In a statement issued Tuesday, the department reminded home cooks to take several precautions, including properly cleaning and prepping equipment before use, avoiding overloading electrical outlets, and ensuring that smoke alarms are in working condition.
Fire officials also emphasized the importance of never leaving the kitchen unattended while cooking, and advised keeping children and pets at least three feet away from cooking areas.
Additionally, the department recommended having a fire extinguisher nearby in case of emergencies.
Following these simple guidelines can help prevent accidents and ensure a safe and enjoyable holiday celebration.
