HONOLULU (KHON2) — To prepare for National Bike to Work Week, members of the Hawaii Bicycling League spent their Saturday repairing bike lanes to prepare the roads.
Ten HBL members spent the day replacing nearly 75 delineators on Ward Avenue from Ala Moana Boulevard to King Street.
Reports said the project was coordinated with the City’s Mālama O Ka ‘Āina community volunteer program and supported by the City’s Department of Transportation Services.
National Bike to Work Week will be celebrated from May 13 to May 17. To celebrate, HBL and their partners will set up energizer stations throughout popular commuter routes to thank and offer support to cyclists.
Stations will be open from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday along the Civic Bike Path behind Honolulu Hale.
On Tuesday and Thursday, bicyclists can visit stations on the corner of Ward and King Street from 3 p.m. to 5:30 p.m.
On Friday, HBL will host a pau hana on Friday at Howzit Brewing from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and will offer free bike valet.
To top off the week, HBL will host the annual Zachary Manago’s Ride in Paradise for Safe Streets urban ride.
The ride is set to start at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday at Kakaako Gateway Park. Participants can expect to ride to the Capitol for speeches before heading back to the park for a picnic lunch.
