HILO, Hawaii (KHON2) — If you’re getting ready to fly out of Hilo International Airport on Monday, Dec. 1, the Hawaii Department of Transportation advises you leave a little earlier than expected.
In a social media post, DOT warned all passengers to arrive at least two hours early before their flights depart due to “reduced capacity at the security checkpoint.”
With an already increased presence at airports due to the peak of holiday season travel, travelers should especially plan to arrive for their flights early.
As the saying goes, it’s better to be safe than sorry. Plus, arriving early at the airport gives passengers enough time to relax before traveling to their holiday destination.
If you are traveling at the peak hours of the airport, which DOT officials said is between 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., arrive two hours early for mainland flights and 90 minutes early for interisland flights.
