HONOLULU (KHON2) — Many have already put up their Christmas trees this year, and now there’s an opportunity to make sure our keiki and kupuna in need have some gifts under their tree this holiday season through the Salvation Army’s Angel Tree program.
“The Angel Tree program aims to provide Christmas gifts to children aged 14 and under, as well as seniors in need within the Hawaiian and Pacific Islands communities. By fulfilling specific gift requests, the program ensures that these individuals experience the joy and magic of the holiday season, even amidst economic challenges. This initiative not only meets immediate material needs but also fosters a sense of community support and compassion.” Salvation Army Major Troy Trimmer said.
He added that the program addresses the needs of vulnerable populations with these gifts that they request.
“By providing personalized gifts to keiki and kupuna, the program alleviates financial burdens on families and brings joy to recipients,” Trimmer said. “It also fosters a spirit of giving and community involvement, encouraging individuals and organizations to support their neighbors in need. The program’s reach extends beyond the holidays, as it supports families throughout the year, reinforcing the community’s social fabric.”
If you’d like to participate, the process is simple.
Angel Tree Shopper
Pick up an Angel Tag from a local Salvation Army Corps Community Center or designated island locations including Ala Moana Shopping Center, Kahala Mall, Central Pacific Bank and all Walmart locations.
Each tag corresponds to a keiki or kupuna with a specific Christmas wish. Purchase the requested gift (or an equivalent) and return it to the same location with the tag attached. The Salvation Army ensures the gift is delivered to the intended recipient before Christmas.
For those who prefer to shop from the convenience of their own home, online Angel Tree registries can be found on Walmart’s website.
