“The weather has been beautiful, let’s hope it stays like this. We’re going to have over 30,000 people at the starting line on Sunday so it’s going to be a big event. It’s the largest Honolulu Marathon ever if we combine that with the Start to Park 10K which starts right with the marathon,” Honolulu Marathon CEO Jim Barahal said.

Registration is still available.

“If you’re still thinking of doing it start training today!” Barahal joked. “Yeah, we do have late entries at the convention center that will start tomorrow and you can still enter for the marathon. If you haven’t trained you might want to think about the Start to Park 10K you can still enter that.”

The course is the same as it has been, and it includes some hills but great volunteers and a sense of community.

“We’re running a 26.2 mile marathon on a relatively small island so you’re gonna go downtown, loop past Ala Moana, head through Waikiki up Diamond Head and around, and all the way out to Hawaii Kai and back,” Barahal said. “The thing about the marathon and I think that large marathons are so great for is the camaraderie and the community that forms out there. The people in the race form their own community of people when you run the race who you do not know and you will never communicate with again. There’s something about being out there together and everybody suffers in their own way. It’s an amazing community that comes together, all of our volunteers and aide stations, the signs, the music, everybody comes together to push people through to the finish line.”
