There’s a new bird in town

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Waikiki students have spent the last year exploring and learning about Leahi, the iconic State Monument towering above their school.

Through a unique partnership with DLNRʻs Division of State Parks, the kids have developed educational signage and a lifesize ʻiwa mosaic which visitors can compare their arm span to the ʻiwaʻs 7 ½ foot wingspan. 

The educational kiosk is filled with Waikiki studentʻs work.

Fourth graders created signs to educate the public about native plants found in the crater.


JABSOM welcomes 77 new doctors to Hawaii

Third graders crafted the lifesize ʻiwa mosaic and accompanying educational sign.

Fifth graders made an interactive educational sign showcasing local experts discussing the culture, history and plants found in the crater.

Diamond Head State Monument is open daily from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Hawaii residents can enter the park free with a Hawaii Drivers license or State-issued ID.
