HONOLULU (KHON2) — A year-long project will begin on Monday, Dec. 9 for five Oahu cities.
The City and County of Honolulu will begin road rehabilitation work in Pearl City, Waialae, Manoa, Aina Haina and Kaneohe from Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Crews from the Department of Design and Construction will demolish, resurface and reconstruct asphalt and concrete pavement, make adjustments to utility manholes and install an underdrain.
Residents can also expect the reconstruction of existing concrete sidewalks, curbs and gutters and install pavement markings and traffic signs.
Officials said residents should expect temporary road closures until work on concrete pavement has cured.
According to City officials, HaRon Construction Inc., the contractor working on the project, will help coordinate and manage local area traffic for businesses and residents so they can access their homes, get deliveries and more.
To avoid as much traffic as possible, crews will work on the project in small phases.
All residents will be informed of no parking areas one week before the start of the projects. Officials said parking is not allowed on the street during work hours and “No Parking” signs will be placed on the road 24 hours before work.
The public should also plan for detour lanes and road closure delays. So, plan to leave early to allow extra travel time through the area.
“Every effort will be made to complete this essential work as quickly as possible and with as little inconvenience to the community as possible. We appreciate the public’s assistance and cooperation during this project and thank them for their patience and support while we work to improve roads in our community,” said the City in a news release.
