HONOLULU (KHON2) — Follow-up water samples from Kalauao Wells pump five tested negative for E.coli bacteria.
Additional testing was conducted after traces of coliform bacteria were found in a raw, pre-chlorination water sample from the Ala Mahamoe Street site in Moanalua on Dec. 6.
The initial detection led to the collection of five other follow-up samples from Kalauao Wells pump five, which serves customers from Aiea to Kahala.
On Dec. 7, all samples came back negative for E. coli bacteria.
Through the entire testing process, the Board of Water Supply reassured its customers that the water was still safe to drink since it had yet to be disinfected before being distributed to customers.
BWS and the Department of Health investigated the incident and determined that the presence of E. coli bacteria could not be confirmed at Kalauao Wells pump five.
The DOH gave BWS approval to continue the water pump’s operations.
