Mililani’s Dillon Gabriel announced as Heisman finalist

Hawaii native Dillon Gabriel has been named a finalist for the 2024 Heisman Trophy, college football’s most prestigious individual award.

The Mililani High School graduate and current Oregon senior quarterback is one of four players invited to the Heisman Trophy ceremony, which will take place Saturday in New York City. Gabriel will be joined by Colorado wide receiver/defensive back Travis Hunter, Boise State running back Ashtony Jeanty, and Miami quarterback Cam Ward.

Gabriel, a former standout for Mililani High School and the 2018 Cover2 Kaulukukui Award winner as Hawaii’s state offensive player of the year, has thrown for 3,558 yards and 28 touchdowns this season for the top-ranked Ducks.

Before transferring to Oregon, Gabriel played for UCF and Oklahoma, compiling a stellar college career from 2019 to 2023.

The Heisman Trophy ceremony will be televised on Saturday at 3:00 pm HST on ESPN.

Gabriel joins an elite group of Hawaii-born players who have reached the pinnacle of college football recognition. Marcus Mariota, a Saint Louis School alumnus, became the only Hawaii-born player to win the Heisman, earning the award in 2014 as Oregon’s quarterback. Punahou’s Manti Te’o (2012) and Saint Louis’ Tua Tagovailoa (2018) both finished runner-up. The University of Hawaii’s Colt Brennan remains the only Rainbow Warrior invited to the ceremony, finishing third in 2007.
