Man critically injured in Waikiki motorcycle accident

WAIKIKI, Hawaii (KHON2) — A motorcyclist is in critical condition following a crash in Waikiki on Ala Wai Boulevard near the intersection of McCully Street.

Honolulu Police Department and Honolulu Emergency Medical Services were called to the scene around 9:41 a.m. on Jan. 8.

According to reports, a 59-year-old male motorcyclist was driving westbound on Ala Wai Boulevard.

A 53-year-old sedan driver, also driving westbound, attempted to change lanes when he hit the motorcyclist.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and took the motorcyclist to an area hospital in critical condition. Officials said he was not wearing a helmet.

Officials said the 53-year-old sedan driver was uninjured and remained at the scene.

HPD’s Traffic Division, Vehicular Homicide Section have launched an investigation.
