Honolulu’s first air-conditioned indoor pickleball and social club just opened on Jan. 20.

“I’ve been here every day, three times a day. Don’t tell my boss,” stated Quy Du, Salt Lake resident.

The new facility includes six courts and shops selling pickleball apparel with more concessions on the way. Members can book courts up to one week in advance and pay hourly rates.

“Our vision is for this project to be the cornerstone of entertainment and recreation and something fun for all of the residents,” stated Robby Kelley of Avalon Group. “It’s something to give people a reason to stay downtown after 5 p.m.”

The development is part of Avalon Group’s $1 billion investment towards Downtown’s revitalization. Neighbors said the new entertainment hub is already bringing the area to life.

“We’ve seen a lot of emptiness. We’ve seen a lot of darkness in the streets just a couple of years ago, but I truly believe we’re seeing that turnaround,” said Ross Isokane, Downtown Neighborhood Board member. “It’s such a central area. There’s so many things to do. So, to be able to bring that energy from around the island into one central facility gives all the people around the island a chance to play.”
