Weather closes 6 public schools in South Kona, 1 on Kauai’s North Shore

HONOLULU (KHON2) — HIDOE public schools in South Kona on Hawaii Island will be closed to students and faculty Friday, Jan. 31, due to major flooding causing accessibility issues to the campuses.

The Kona schools are:

  • Ho‘okena Elementary
  • Hōnaunau Elementary
  • Konawaena Elementary
  • Konawaena Middle
  • Konawaena High
  • Ke Kula ʻO ʻEhunuikaimalino

On Kauaiʻs North Shore, Kīlauea Elementary will also be closed today due to lack of running water on campus because of power outages.

All public schools in Maui County – on Maui, Molokai and Lāna‘i – remain closed.
