HONOLULU (KHON2) — Dozens of Honolulu Fire Department employees moved up in the ranks during HFD’s promotion ceremony on Friday, Jan. 31.
A total of 25 individuals were promoted including 23 uniformed and two civilians, four of which are Battalion Chiefs.
HFD Chief Sheldon Hao commended each employee for achieving another career milestone, emphasizing the hard work and dedication each individual brings to the department.
“Congratulations on your achievement. You’ve all come far and proven your dedication, your competence and your commitment that define our department. You’ve also endured a highly competitive promotional process which demonstrates your resilience and relentless pursuit of excellence,” Chief Hao added.
Civilians George Davis and Arther Fujioka were recognized for their hard work in HFD’s Radio Shop.
Davis was promoted to Departmental Radio Communications Coordinator and will “plan, design, install, modify and maintain radio communications and related radio-activated systems for multiple Honolulu agencies.”
Meanwhile, Fujioka moved up to Radio Technician II and will supervise Radio Shop technicians while working with radio equipment.
Seven firefighters were promoted to Fire Fighter II, each adding Hazardous Materials Technician. rescue specialist, fire dispatch operator and more to their resume.
Eight others moved to Fire Fighter III, where they will hold key leadership roles to oversee the safety of the fire crew.
HFD also welcomed four newly promoted Fire Captains who will use their expertise in fire fighting equipment, techniques and more to lead their fire company and manage training and fire prevention programs.
Last but not least, four uniformed employees were promoted to Battalion Chief and will be expected to use their communication and organizational skills to ensure HFD operates as efficiently and effectively as possible.

Currently, the Honolulu Fire Department has 1,120 employed individuals who serve at 44 fire stations and six support locations around the city.
