MAUI, Hawaii (KHON2) — Chrissy Lovitt, a Lahaina boat captain, captured a heartwarming moment between two unlikely friends: her 11-year-old golden retriever Macy and a whale in the Maui waters.
Lovitt stopped the boat and shut the motor off, in accordance with marine sanctuary laws, once she noticed Macy and the whale’s connection.
The captain said that Macy loves whale watching, but has been waiting years for a whale to take interest in the dog.
Lovitt, who rescued two children from the water during the Lahaina fire, lost all her boats in the blaze, but recently got her business operating again. The unlikely duo met while on Lovitt’s new boat, which is named after her golden retriever.
