Cool northerly winds and low rain chances this week

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Shower activity is expected to remain scarce overall with just isolated windward showers in the forecast. Winds are somewhat northerly for Tuesday with kona winds Wednesday and Thursday. Trade winds return Friday and this weekend, with limited shower activity.

Light rain is falling on Kauai now and will move to Oahu tonight, Maui County overnight, and the Big Island Tuesday, lasting through Wednesday. Rainfall will be light, less than an inch total, mainly on windward slopes. Temperatures will rise slightly overnight, but elsewhere will be a bit cooler than usual.

Thursday will have weak winds, and while some models suggest possible afternoon showers due to a passing system, others predict drier conditions. There’s some uncertainty about how much rain will fall.

By Friday and Saturday, typical trade winds will return, bringing the usual windward and mountain showers.
