HONOLULU (KHON2) — A Maui man who pleaded guilty to possessing an explosive device has been sentenced to two years in federal prison.
Robert Francis Dumaran, 41, admitted to attempting to detonate a homemade firework near Kahului Elementary School in July.
Federal authorities said they later discovered an improvised hand grenade at his residence during an investigation.
Dumaran also pleaded guilty to possessing explosive powders, despite being a convicted felon, which is prohibited under federal law.
