At a recent performance at the Waikiki Shell, KHON2 caught up with Eli Mac to delve into her transformation over the past 20 years.

Reflecting on her stage name, Eli Mac explained, “Eli Mac is Camile spelled backward. So it’s kind of the same person.”

Eli Mac’s journey on American Idol began when she reached the top 10 in 2004 at the age of 18.

“It’s been 20 years. I was 18 at the time. And prior to that, I had only been on stage two times in my entire life.”

Following her time on the show, Eli Mac faced personal and professional challenges, including a period of couch-surfing and waitressing.

Despite the hardships, she channeled her experiences into her music, resulting in the release of her EP album “Dub Stop” in October 2014.

“The struggle is what molded me and gave me the strength that I have today,” Eli Mac shared, reflecting on her journey of self-discovery.

Now 38, she exudes confidence as she spreads positivity through her blend of reggae, R&B, and hip-hop.

Living in San Diego and touring the world, Eli Mac continues to inspire audiences with her empowering music.

Her upcoming album, set for release in Fall 2024, promises to showcase her growth and artistry.
