‘Get your pet back by getting that microchip:’ Oahu SPCA

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A new initiative led by the Oahu SPCA hopes to reunite pets with their owners in the event they get lost.

During March, the no-kill animal shelter is offering free microchips for your four-legged friends when you schedule a wellness exam or spay/neuter surgery at the Wahaiwa clinic.

“This offer is a great opportunity for pet owners to ensure their furry companions are properly identified and protected in case they ever get lost,” said the shelter in a news release.

Microchips are permanent devices that are placed under your pet’s skin and contain your contact information to make reuniting with your furry friend a simple process.

The shelter added that nearly one in three pets will go missing in their lifetime and microchips can be the difference between life and death.

“The best way to get your pet back is by getting that microchip, getting it registered and just remember to have your pets vaccinated, make an appointment at our website or give us a call so that you can get in,” said Adrian Preciado of Oahu SPCA.

“We want to be able to help out more of the community by offering low-cost vet services with the microchip or the vaccinations.”

Microchipping cats and dogs is required under state law.
