Trades gradually decreasing, wet weather expected this weekend

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Strong trade winds will gradually ease starting Thursday. Winds are expected to remain light this weekend. A wet season storm system could bring heavy rain from Sunday through Wednesday. Isolated thunderstorms are expected due to this nearby storm, which should clear the islands Wednesday.

Today through Friday:

  • Mostly dry and sunny.
  • Breezy trade winds, but not as strong as before.
  • A few light showers, mostly overnight and in windward/mountain areas.

Weekend and early next week:

  • Winds will weaken and shift.
  • More moisture and instability will bring increased rain chances.
  • Rain will be heaviest overnight and in windward/mountain areas, then shift to leeward areas in the afternoons.
