Big Island receives four new ambulances

HAWAII, Hawaii (KHON2) — The Big Island fire department received four new ambulances, with the new additions to their team being blessed during a ceremony on March 17 in Hilo.

The state-funded vehicles will be assigned to the Hilo, Keauhou, Waikoloa and Ocean View stations, replacing existing vehicles that have reached the end of their lifespan.

“These new ambulances represent our unwavering commitment to providing high-quality emergency medical care to the people of Hawaiʻi County,” said Fire Chief Kazuo Todd. “We are grateful for the continued support of the state and our community in strengthening our emergency response capabilities.”

The blessing of the vehicles was conducted by County Council Chair Dr. Holeka Goro Inaba. The total cost of the four ambulances total about $1.2 million.
