HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Honolulu Fire Department’s 117th Fire Fighter Recruit Class graduated on the morning of March 14 at the Hawaiʻi Okinawa Center’s Legacy Ballroom.
The class is made up of 37 members, including two who will be joining the state’s Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting unit.
The new firefighters began their training back in July 2024, where they trained with instructors from around HFD and third-party evaluators. The graduates totaled 1,328 hours of training over a span of 36 weeks.
All 37 graduates are now certified to handle hazardous materials, conduct basic operation and driving skills, and are certified to the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians.
Four special awards were given at the ceremony, such as the Superior Performance in Drills award, the Most Inspirational award and more.
