VIDEO: Car narrowly misses child getting off West Virginia school bus

ST. ALBANS, WV (WOWK) — Dashcam footage from a West Virginia school bus shows a vehicle illegally passing it while stopped and nearly hitting a child walking across the road in St. Albans.

On Thursday, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office put out a request for the public’s help identifying the driver. Within half an hour, the KCSO identified the vehicle’s owner as a St. Albans man.

However, the KCSO says they are still working to secure evidence to confirm if he was driving the vehicle at the time of the incident. The man is not facing any charges in this incident at this time.

Security footage shows the bus stopped on a St. Albans neighborhood street. As the child walks in front of the bus, a white 2012 Lincoln MKS sedan illegally passes the school bus by crossing the yellow line.

The video shows the white sedan continuing on across the white line into the gravel as the child stops walking just in time to avoid being hit by the sedan. The vehicle does not stop and continues back onto the road around the bus.

The video also shows the vehicle has damage along the passenger side, including damage on the front of the passenger side, which has been covered with white tape.

Deputies say the vehicle owner is currently in a regional jail on unrelated charges. According to the KCSO, the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office arrested the man the following day, Saturday, March 15, for an alleged DUI while driving that same Lincoln, which was impounded.

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact the KCSO at (304) 357-0169 or send an anonymous tip to the KCSO website.
