68-year-old in critical condition after H-1 crash

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A 68-year-old man is in critical condition following a crash on the H-1 Freeway early Thursday morning.

Police said the incident occurred shortly after 4 a.m. when a vehicle heading west attempted to exit onto the Vineyard Street off-ramp and collided with another vehicle.

The impact caused the second vehicle to crash into a cement wall.

Rescuers had to use special equipment to free the 68-year-old driver from the wreckage. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

The driver of the first vehicle was arrested on charges of negligent injury and driving under the influence. His passenger was also hospitalized in serious condition.
