HONOLULU (KHON2) — Honolulu police are cracking down on e-bikes after completing their second sting operation in the West Oahu area.
On Monday, April 7, police officials said multiple officers dressed in everyday clothing to conduct the e-bike and e-motorcycle operation near Campbell High School.
Officials said seven citations were issued for a total of 15 violations. HPD also gave 70 warnings for helmet and bike registration issues.
Five electric dirt bikes were also recovered.
“Many of the juveniles who received citations in March were seen [Monday] wearing helmets and riding legal e-bikes/e-motorcycles,” HPD said in a social media post.
Police officials remind the public that any e-bike or e-motorcycle exceeding 750 watts is illegal. All e-bikes should be properly registered and riders under 18 must wear a helmet.
More information regarding e-bike and e-motorcycle laws can be found on HPD’s website.
