KĀNEʻOHE, Hawaiʻi (KHON2) — Honolulu police are searching for the driver involved in a hit-and-run collision in the Kāneʻohe area that left one pedestrian dead.
The incident happened around 1:20 a.m. on Saturday, April 20, on Kahekili Highway near Haiku Road.
HPD said a 33-year-old male pedestrian was walking on Kahekili Highway when he was hit by a vehicle.
The man was left lying on the road until a 52-year-old female and her passenger pulled over to assist him.
Officials said a 55-year-old driver saw the 52-year-old’s stopped car and attempted to avoid another accident when a 40-year-old male driver and his 32-year-old female passenger rear-ended her.
Following the accident, the 40-year-old male hit the 52-year-old female’s car and the male pedestrian, who was struck once more.
Paramedics responded and pronounced the man dead at the scene.
EMS also aided the 32-year-old female passenger and transported her to the hospital in serious condition.
HPD said this death marks Oahu’s 24th traffic fatality of 2025, compared to 10 at the same time last year.
