HONOLULU (KHON2) — A man is dead after attempting to hike Makapuʻu Lighthouse Trail.
The Honolulu Fire Department and Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded to the incident just before 11 a.m. on Thursday.
The 76-year-old man ventured off the trail and was later reported missing.
Firefighters searching on the ground were able to locate him, but he was found unresponsive and pulseless.
HFD said they initiated CPR and applied a mechanical chest compression device for the airlift operation.
Around 1 p.m., the hiker was airlifted to a landing zone where paramedics took over.

Honolulu EMS said they attempted resuscitation efforts but were unsuccessful. Officials said the man suffered cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead.
