Otto Cake in Kaimuki has been in business since 1996 when owner Otto McDonough opened his first bakery near the Honolulu Airport using his mother’s recipe to create cheesecakes from scratch.

How scammers are targeting small businesses

“The cheesecakes are different from everybody else’s cheesecakes,” explained Jummy Lake and Rose Serai, disappointed Otto Cake customers. “To me, they were smaller and more flavorful. They had different flavors too, not just the plain cheesecake.”

According to its website, McDonough developed over 286 flavors of cheesecake.

Word got out about the closure. The bakery shut down early today because they were sold out, disappointing to many who had stopped by to get their last slices of cheesecake.

“I was so sad,” expressed Jasmine Malina, another disappointed Otto Cake customer. “It’s only two o’clock. They open at 11, it took only three hours to sell out.”
