HONOLULU (KHON2) — This year marks the 50th anniversary of National Emergency Management Week. Officials said this year’s theme is “Honoring Our Past. Forging Our Future.”
According to reports, Honolulu EMS answered over 100,000 911 phone calls, provided life-saving treatment to over 89,000 people, and transported nearly 63,000 patients to emergency rooms in 2023.
Governor Green thanked EMS workers on Friday for their service during COVID and the Lahaina wildfires.
“EMS dramatically improves survival, we know that the faster we are able to get to our people in the golden minute, we can keep them alive,” said Governor Josh Green. “So, I’m grateful to you.”
President Gerald Ford established the first “National Emergency Medical Services Week” in 1974.
