HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Hawaii Department of Health is warning residents about a recall on Mauna Loa Dark Chocolate Covered Macadamias due to the possible presence of undeclared almonds and cashews.
The recall, issued by Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Company, affects both 0.6-ounce and 4-ounce packages sold in retail stores across the state. Officials said people with allergies to almonds or cashews could face severe or even life-threatening reactions if they consume the product.
Health officials urge consumers to check packaging details and avoid eating the product if they—or anyone in their household—are allergic to tree nuts.
Symptoms of allergic reactions may include hives, swelling, digestive problems, or breathing issues. In severe cases, it can lead to anaphylaxis, a medical emergency that requires immediate treatment.
Consumers are advised to return the recalled products to the store for a full refund.
