‘Bows take down Penn State to advance to NCAA Tournament Semifinals

The 2nd seeded Hawaii Rainbow Warriors took on the 7th seed Penn State Nittany Lions on Thursday.

UH in set 1, finished with 14 kills on .367 hitting % and 3 service aces. While the ‘Bows also held Penn State to a low 11 kills and 7 attacking errors. Hawaii took set 1 25-19.

In set 2, UH tried to take a quick 2 frame lead as UH led 8-5, but Penn State pulled ahead midway through the frame and did not give up the lead. Hawaii had 12 kills, 8 errors and match low 1 ace on a hitting percentage of .154 to fall by 4.

As the ‘Bows looked to bounce back in the 3rd frame, another strong play from the service line as Hawaii found 3 service aces in the set while blocking 7 Penn State Kills. Hawaii took the 2-1 set lead after taking the 3rd 25-23.

Then in the 4th, Hawaii was able to close out the match as they go for 13 kills and 3 service aces in the final set. Hawaii held Penn State to a match low 9 kills in the final frame.

Hawaii wins 3-1 (25-19, 21-25, 25-23, 25-23) and will advance to take on (3) UCLA in the semifinals on Saturday at 2pm HT.
