HONOLULU (KHON2) — Thousands of people flooded Ala Moana Beach to pick up their lanterns for Monday’s 25th annual Shinnyo Lantern Floating Hawaii event.
This year, the ceremony featured a taiko and hula performance, the Sharing of Light, a blessing from Her Holiness Shinso Ito, and the floating of lanterns.
The annual event is about connecting the community and bringing people together to honor loved ones and those who have passed away.
During last year’s ceremony, around 45,000 people were in attendance.
The event will air on KHON, KHII and the CW.
