Missing dog reunited with owner on her birthday

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A family dog who was thought to have been stolen is now back home. The family says it was a rough night for them, but now they are ecstatic that their furry friend is back home on a special day.

The dog, Charlie, is now back home with his mom, North Shore’s Anna Swim, who is also the owner of Waialua Bakery.

“It’s just so amazing to have my dog back. I mean, I didn’t think I’d ever see him again,” Swim said.

Charlie is a bit of a fixture in the North Shore community, recognized as the mini poodle who hangs outside of his mom’s bakery.

But while outside on May 12, Charlie vanished.

It turns out, the dog’s disappearance was a misunderstanding.

The people who found the dog did not want to go on camera, but they say they saw Charlie hanging out in the parking lot, which is not unusual for the dog.

They assumed he was a stray, so they picked him up and took him home. Upon finding Charlie’s information on social media and realizing that he is not a stray dog, they decided to reach out to return him.

Upon Charlie’s return, Swim was overall grateful for his homecoming.

“I don’t know the reason why, I don’t care why or whatever I’m just thankful that they brought him back,” Swim said.

Charlie’s homecoming date also coincided with Swim’s birthday, making for a perfect birthday present.

For the future, Swim says she will keep a much closer eye on the pooch while he’s at the shop.
