Auntie Gracie honored in new building rename

HONOLULU (KHON2) — A beloved Waimānalo community member is being honored with a new name for a newly refreshed building.

During a ceremony on May 28, a new sign was unveiled in a multi-purpose building at Waimānalo District Park, which was renamed after Grace Adviento, also known as Auntie Grace.

Born and raised in Waimānalo, Auntie Gracie continues to serve her beloved community in many ways, adding to her five decades of service.

She has been an integral part of Waimānalo by staffing Waimānalo’s district and beach parks, and volunteering as a member of the Waimānalo Senior Citizen Club.

Throughout the years, she was helpful in organizing a wide variety of events and programs like carnivals, parades and kūpuna classes.

Now known as the Grace Adviento Multi-purpose Building, this follows the completion of an improvement project designed to protect the building from future disasters, including roof strengthening, accessibility improvements and repairs to damages caused by the April 2018 flood.
