HONOLULU (KHON2) — Three men have been indicted for a deadly Makaha shooting that left one person dead and four others injured.

Styren Stevens, 19; Matthew Moon, 20; and Olsen Burrows-Fonoimonana, 20; were indicted by an O‘ahu grand jury on Wednesday, June 4, after appearing in court the day before. A juvenile suspect has been charged in family court.

The three adult defendants are being indicted for attempted murder in the first degree, murder in the second degree, three counts of attempted murder in the second degree, and additional firearm charges. Witnesses identified all three defendants as members of a local gang.

The defendants are accused of shooting and killing 19-year-old Marcus Araneta, in addition to injuring several other victims on the night of May 28. Stevens, one of the defendants, was injured by a gunshot during the incident.

According to Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Kyle Mesa, at least five shots were fired on May 28, and four shell casings (fired from two different guns) were recovered from the scene. The two weapons were reportedly later found at the home of Burrows-Fonoimonana.

Mesa said at least five individuals played a role in the deadly shooting.

Four suspects have been taken into custody for their suspected involvement in the case, including one juvenile, but Mesa said there is one more person involved who has not yet been identified.

The three adult defendants are being held without bail at the O‘ahu Community Correctional Center.

Charges are allegations only. All arrested persons are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt.
