HONOLULU (KHON2) — Honolulu Cookie Company is excited to introduce its new summer flavor, Ube. Starting tomorrow, Ube fans can enjoy cookies featuring a perfect blend of texture and flavor with hints of vanilla and a sweet finish.
The Ube cookies are available in various packaging options: a collectible purple Ube Pineapple Tin with 9 cookies, a Ube Mini Bites Snack Pack with approximately 37-40 mini bites, and an online-exclusive Single Flavor Box with 16 cookies.
Ube is a purple yam from Southeast Asia, particularly the Philippines, known for its unique taste and vibrant color, often used in desserts like cakes, ice cream and cookies.
KHON2.com was able to catch up with Julie Plant, Vice President of Retail, at HCC’s Beachwalk Waikiki location to talk about their new cookie.
She shared her excitement about the introduction of their newest summer cookie flavor, Ube. The decision to create this cookie was a collaboration between the company’s research and development team and customer feedback.
“Our customers play a crucial role in helping us decide on new flavors,” said Plant. “The process from inception to launch can take years, as we monitor trends and ensure high-quality standards.”
Ube aligns well with the diverse and vibrant culture of Hawaiʻi. Plant believes this unique flavor will be well-received due to its novelty and the local community’s fondness for Ube treats.
“When you see the purple, you’re not sure what to expect, but I guarantee it’s going to be a fan favorite,” she enthusiastically explained.
The Ube cookie, which has hints of vanilla, was recently launched at their Beachwalk store in Waikiki, drawing considerable interest.
“The color alone is sparking interest,” Plant noted, highlighting the collectible purple Ube Pineapple Tin as a special packaging option.
The company plans to continue introducing new flavors and collaborations, promising surprises for their followers on social media.
Plant emphasizes that the release of the Ube flavor reflects Honolulu Cookie Company’s commitment to innovation and quality, marking their 26th year in business.
“We continue to raise the bar, whether through R&D, packaging, or developing new flavors,” she stated. This launch not only excites customers but also positively impacts the local community and workforce, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment among local businesses.
For those eager to try the new flavor, Plant invites everyone to sample the Ube cookie in stores, ensuring that the experience of discovering this new treat is as delightful as the cookie itself.
