HONOLULU (KHON2) — The 108th annual King Kamehameha Floral Parade adorned the streets of Honolulu in celebration of the renowned monarch.
The parade was complete with marching bands, flower-donned floats and paʻu riders who all made the voyage from ʻIolani Palace to Waikīkī.
Residents and visitors observed the floral spectacle that honored the king who united the islands over 200 years ago.
“I wanted to bring my daughter down to see all the horses and the dancers and learn a little about Hawaiian culture,” said spectator Russell Ryan.
The parade’s occurrence reminded crowds of the aloha spirit, to crowd member Lori-Anne Faye’s pleasure.
“Today is the day to get out and love everybody and be happy,” she said. “A little rain, a little sun, something for everyone.”
The parade wrapped with a Hoʻolaulea at Kapiʻolani Park that ended in the evening. Kauaʻi and Molokaʻi also held royal celebrations, with Maui joining in the celebrations next weekend.
