WAIANAE, Hawaii (KHON2) — A 20-year-old man is in custody following an assault incident in Waianae on Friday, June 13, injuring a nine-year-old girl.
According to Honolulu police, the incident happened just before 10:30 p.m. when the juvenile was at a residence with her parent and the suspect.
HPD said the man was “manipulating the firearm when one round was fired, striking the victim.”
Following the incident, officials stated that the juvenile was transported to the hospital by personal means.
She was treated for a gunshot wound and listed in good condition before being taken into protective custody.
During the early hours of Sunday, June 15, HPD said they located and arrested the suspect for assault in the second degree.
