Less than two weeks after being named President Wendy Hensel’s pick for the University of Hawai‘i’s next athletics director, Matt Elliott was officially approved for the role on Monday, becoming the 25th athletics director in program history.
The University of Hawai‘i Board of Regents voted unanimously to confirm Elliott’s appointment following a deliberation that lasted under an hour.
Elliott was selected from a pool of more than 100 applicants.
He brings 13 years of collegiate athletics administrative experience, including a long tenure at UCLA which included a role as Chief Strategy Officer, playing a pivotal role in the Bruins move to the Big Ten Conference.
Most recently, he served as director of policy at the Hawai‘i Community Foundation over the past year.
He now succeeds Craig Angelos, who was dismissed in November after serving just over a year as athletics director.
