Man, 60, critically injured in Hilo collision

HILO, Hawaii (KHON2) — A 60-year-old Ocean View man is in critical condition after being struck by a vehicle on the morning of June 18 in Hilo, Hawaiʻi Police Department officials said.

HPD first received word of the collision shortly after 10 a.m., where officers found that a van operated by a 39-year-old male struck the pedestrian, who was crossing the street outside of a marked crosswalk, officials said.

Police say the pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to the Hilo Benioff Medical Center for treatment.

The driver was not injured and was not arrested, police said. HPD does not believe speed or intoxicants appear to be factors in the investigation.
