Hawaii’s Sean Yamaguchi suited for the Nevada Wolf Pack during his freshman season of college baseball this year, and made the most of the opportunity.
“I think it was a really good season for me. Playing Division one baseball, it’s a lot different than high school baseball down here. A lot more games, a lot more competitive. But for me, just making sure that I stayed on task and, you know, our coaching staff is really good. My teammates really helped me out coming in as a freshman,” Said Yamaguchi.
This season, the freshman infielder was named the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year. He was also named an NCBWA Freshman All-American.
Yamaguchi finished with a batting average of .324 with 72 hits, and 13 homeruns. While in the field he had a fielding percentage of .969.
For the freshman, he wanted to follow in the footsteps of fellow college standouts from Hawaii.
“When I was in high school to see all guys like Caleb (Lomavita) getting these accolades, freshman all-American and all these things. So just making sure that, you know, I can compete at this level and making sure that I can I can be just like Caleb, you know, Caleb was a first rounder and Aiva (Arquette) is doing great things,” said Yamaguchi.
The Former Saint Louis standout will return to Nevada for his Sophomore season.
