Ewa Bird Show returns with birds, food and family fun

HONOLULU (KHON2) — The Ewa Bird Show took place at Ewa Elementary School on June 21, with bird lovers flocking to the show from around the island.

The show was founded in 2011 by Cameron and Joy Datanagan, with help from their children Jayson and Camryn, and began as a modest pigeon exhibition.

What was once a small showing of birds exploded over the years into a showcase of animals of all types — from land and air animals — as well as onolicious food trucks, craft vendors and more.

This year’s show featured a myriad of food and crafts, from pizza to shave ice to birria to animal feed.

According to Cameron, who serves as the show’s executive director, the show exists to help educate keiki and get them out of the house.

“All in the mission of getting kids off the computers and into the yard with animals,” he said.
