HONOLULU (KHON2) — This is Weekend Roundup, your go-to destination for weekend planning in the islands. For this last weekend of June, we have everything from movie nights to music celebrations and night markets.
Here’s everything you need to have a fantastic weekend:
June 28
Oʻahu
The sixth annual Hi Fit Expo will take place at the Blaisdell Exhibition Hall from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., which is free for all ages. The event will feature a youth fitness challenge, as well as other events such as pickleball, sumo, cheerleading and more.
The event will also feature informative seminars with professional presenters, so you can learn more about your fitness goals.
Going windward, the free Kaneʻohe Night Market will take place at Windward Mall. The market runs from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., and will feature live music, ono eats and local vendors.
For guests over the age of 21, the night market is also selling a limited amount of covered seating at their Coors Game Garden.
For movie fans, the Honolulu Rainbow Film Festival will be showing multiple different short and feature films at the Doris Duke Theater. There will be three different showings highlighting multiple pictures, with one at 1 p.m., another at 4 p.m. and finally at 7 p.m.
The 7 p.m. feature film will be “Queens of the Dead,” which features New York drag queens as they slay zombies. Tickets can be purchased on the film festival’s website.
Hawaiʻi Island
The Orchid Isle’s Pride will take place at the Moʻoheau Bandstand in Hilo. A parade will begin at 11 a.m., followed by a pride festival from noon until 4 p.m.
On the other side of the island, Puʻuhonua o Hōnaunau National Historic Park will be celebrating their 64th anniversary from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. The event will feature free park admission, demonstrations, hula performances and games for everyone in the family.
Maui
For country music lovers, the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort and Spa will be hosting Nashville Nights, a celebration of the country genre. Complete with southern-inspired dishes, cocktails and music, the event is family-friendly and runs from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online.
For improv fans on the Valley Isle, there will be a Free Range Comedy show, celebrating the improv’s 10th anniversary. The show will take place at the ProArts Playhouse, with the show beginning at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the performance can be purchased online.
Kauaʻi
The Kauaʻi Island Crafters Fair will take place in Lihuʻe from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Veterans Center, and will feature handmade, local crafts with something for everybody.
For the night owls, Kauaʻi After Dark offers a dance party experience for those over 21 years of age. The party will take place at Mariachi’s Mexican Cuisine in Kapaʻa, with a headlining performance by DJ Chocolate Sushi. The event runs from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m., and tickets can be purchased online.
June 29
Oʻahu
“SIX: The Musical” will be performing the final shows of their Honolulu stop on June 29, with a matinee show at 1 p.m. and an evening performance at 6:30 p.m. at the Blaisdell. Tickets can be purchased online for either performance. Don’t miss out on this royal concert!
In Haleʻiwa, Kaina Makua, who will be playing King Kamehameha in Jason Momoa’s upcoming series “Chief of War,” will be hosting a community workday at Kukuiloloa Farm. The workday will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will feature ʻāina restoration activities and cutural celebrations.
Hawaiʻi Island
The Big Island will have a fun event for those who play music, with the Bluegrass Jam at the Lava Links Recreational Club in Mountain View. The event features the opportunity for musicians to play their favorite picking instrument. Don’t forget to bring something to sit on and something to pick, as the event runs from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Maui
Music lovers on Maui are able to enjoy a fun event as well, with the Hawaiian Slack Key Guitar Festival taking place at the Maui Arts and Cultural Center. The free event runs from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m., and features the islands’ best in slack key guitar players.
Kauaʻi
Film lovers can enjoy a free screening of local films “Cane Fire” and “Hawaiian Soul,” with the films’ producers there to talk story about the movies. The screening and Q&A will take place at Hale Lihuʻe at 4 p.m.
