Maui police employee arrested for alleged sexual assault

HONOLULU (KHON2) — Maui Police Department confirmed that they have arrested an employee for alleged sexual assault against a minor.

Police said the 44-year-old Kihei man had been working for 27 days when he was arrested on Saturday, June 28. The man is accused of sexual assault in the first degree and electronic enticement of a child in the first degree.

“In light of our department’s continued involvement in Operation Keiki Shield and our ongoing efforts to protect the most vulnerable members of our community, these allegations are not taken lightly,” said Chief of Police John Pelletier. “This type of conduct is not reflective of the values of the Maui Police Department. We are committed to ensuring a thorough and impartial investigation and to upholding the highest standards of integrity and accountability.”

Police added that the man was a new hire and had not performed any law enforcement duties and had no interaction with the public. He is now on administrative leave.
