Motorcyclist, 22, dead in Kailua crash

KAILUA, Hawaii (KHON2) — An early morning crash in the Kailua area claimed Oahu’s 40th traffic fatality of 2025 — a 22-year-old motorcyclist.

According to the Honolulu Police, the crash occurred around 2 a.m. on Wednesday, July 2, when the motorcyclist was traveling westbound on Oneawa Street at an excessive speed.

Officials said he traveled off the roadway before striking a pole and a concrete wall. As a result of the crash, the motorcyclist was thrown onto the shoulder.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services paramedics responded to the scene and treated the male for critical “multi-system traumatic injuries.”

EMS took the man to an area hospital in critical condition, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.

HPD said the man was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

HPD’s traffic division reported that this is the 40th fatality of 2025 compared to 16 at the same time last year.
