HONOLULU (KHON2) — The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) issued a recall on turkey bacon products and public health alert for ready-to-eat beef jerky stick products.
Turkey bacon recall
FSIS announced on July 2, Kraft Heinz Foods Company recalled approximately 367,812 pounds of fully cooked turkey bacon products after laboratory testing indicated they may be contaminated with Listeria.
The following Oscar Mayer Turkey Bacon Original products are subject to recall:
- Universal product code (UPC) “071871548601” printed on the packaging under the barcode with “use by” dates ranging from July 18 to Aug. 2.
- UPC “071871548748” with “use by” dates from July 24 to Sept. 4.
- UPC “071871548793” with “use by” dates from July 18 to Sept. 4.
According to FSIS, the affected products have the USDA mark of inspection on the front of the label. Retail locations nationwide, the British Virgin Islands and Hong Kong received these items.
Officials said they have not received any confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of these products.
Beef jerky sticks’ public health alert
FSIS reported consumer complaints of transparent pieces of plastic in two beef stick products from Riverbend Ranch: Original and Jalapeño.
With an 18-month shelf life, the jerky sticks were produced on May 27 and have a best-by date of Nov. 27, 2026.
Officials said the affected products have “EST. 47282” on the back of the label and were distributed online and to locations nationwide, including Puerto Rico.
FSIS urged consumers to discard the products or return the items to the place of purchase. The beef jerky stick products are no longer available for purchase.
There have been no confirmed reports of injury or illness due to the consumption of these products.
