HONOLULU (KHON2) — An Oʻahu jury found 49-year-old Jason Walker guilty of Assault in the Second Degree on July 3, the Department of the Prosecuting Attorney said.
In July 2022, the department says Walker severed a 54-year-old man’s left hand off with a double-edge sword. He also severely injured the victim’s right hand, as he had attacked the victim on various parts of his body, the department said.
“This type of brutality cannot be tolerated in our country. This was a tough case. We appreciate the jury’s decision to hold this defendant accountable for his actions,” Prosecuting Attorney Steve Alm said. “We want to thank the Honolulu Police officers who quickly rendered aid to the victim as well as conducted the investigation into this case.”
According to eyewitnesses, the incident started with an argument between the two men inside a 7-Eleven.
Witnesses said they looked like they had disagreements in the past.
A witness said the victim’s entire hand was gone from the wrist down and that he was also sliced down the side of his body.
The sentence for Assault in the Second Degree is five years in prison. Walker’s sentencing has been set for October 22.
