HONOLULU (KHON2) — Hawaii County’s Police Commission has denied Chief Ben Moszkowicz’s request to withdraw his resignation.
The vote came down to a tie, and the police commission will accept his resignation.
“I intended to stay here. My family, we love it here and if I could rewind the last six weeks and undo actions, I absolutely would,” Moszkowicz said.
The decision comes after Chief Moszkowicz submitted his resignation so he could apply to be the interim chief at the Honolulu Police Department.
In the end, the Honolulu Police Commission appointed Deputy Chief Rade Vanic to the role, leading Moszkowicz to withdraw his resignation from the Hawaii Island Police Department.
In an earlier statement, Moszkowicz said he deeply regretted his actions and reiterated his “long-term commitment” to remain in service to the Orchid Isle.
